Under the Freedom of Information Act, please provide us with any correspondence between the Office for National Statistics and Stonewall in relation to how the ONS gathers data on sex and gender in the past two years. This should include, and not be limited to, emails, written and electronic correspondence and records of meetings.

We have conducted a search of all correspondence we hold and have found the emails in the accompanying PDF download within the scope of your request.

Some information has been withheld, as this was provided to us with the expectation of confidence. Therefore, this information is exemption from release under Section 41 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), whereby the disclosure of the information to the public by the public authority holding it would constitute a breach of confidence actionable by that or any other person. This is an absolute exemption and so public interest arguments do not need to be considered.

Personal data of all of those external to ONS and ONS employees at Senior Executive Officer level and below have been redacted under Section 40 (2) of the FOIA.
