You asked:

Is the National Museum of the Royal Navy defined by the Office for National Statistics as an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body of the MoD?

We said:

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) has been classified by us as a Central Government body. This decision was included in the Sector Classification published on 31 July 2009 and was carried out for the purposes of official economic statistics. This is compliant with internationally agreed statistical rules set out in the European system of accounts.

The NMRN had been established as a Private Limited Company, but as the majority of the board were public sector appointees, it was determined that this constituted public sector control. Detailed information on the UK economic statistics sector and transaction classification process can be found on the Office for National Statistics website.

It may be useful for you to know that the Cabinet Office has classified NMRN as an Executive non-departmental public body. This classification took place separately from the our review using a different typology, which means the classification is different but consistent with our classification.
