Please provide information regarding the following:

  • Are there autism recruitment specialists?

  • Has the Civil Service sought advice from the N.A.S. (National Autistic Society)?

  • How many people recruited with a disability have autism and more specifically, how many apprentices?

We said

Thank you for your request.

We do not have dedicated autism specialists' roles within our recruitment team. Instead we ensure our staff are trained to address the necessary adjustments to the recruitment process, as determined by the abilities of the individuals.

We rely on the applicant being proactive in this to make us aware of their needs, which includes (but not exclusive to) highlighting this through Disability Confident Scheme, which candidates are informed of within the application process.

Unfortunately, we do not hold information for your second question. The Civil Service is not a single organisation. It is made up of many individual Departments, which are each able to make their own arrangements with external organisations.

The Diversity information gathered in recruitment and indeed internally for our staff does not ask for the nature of a person's disability, only whether they consider themselves to have a disability. Therefore, we do not hold the information requested from your third question.
