Please state the city with the highest rate of drug-poisoning deaths. I understand the North East of England had the highest rate by region in 2023, but I would like to know which area exactly comes top.

We produce statistics on deaths relating to drug poisoning in England and Wales. However, we do not hold statistics on drug-poisoning deaths by city. This is because there is no city geography that we can map our death registrations to, in the same way that we can for geographies like region and local authority.
The best source of information to use is the Deaths related to drug poisoning by local authority, England and Wales dataset, which provides drug-poisoning deaths by local authority area in England and Wales.
This dataset will be updated with 2024 registration data on the 17 October 2025 with the publication of our Deaths related to drug poisoning in England and Wales: 2024 registrations bulletin.
