Thank you for your freedom of information request.

Time series going back to 2002 for crime types that fall under child sexual abuse (for example, sexual assault on a female child under 13) can be found in any of the appendix tables for the Crime Survey in England and Wales, in Tables A4a and A4b. These data are recorded by the police and published by us.

The number of child sexual abuse crimes are published in our police force area tables, in the March datasets. These data are recorded by the police and published by the ONS. They are available for the years 2022-23 and 2023-24, but are not available before these years due to changing recording practices. The relevant tables are Table P14 in the year ending March 2023 and Table P13 in the year ending March 2024.

Data for the year ending March 2025 is scheduled to be published in July 2025. The exact date will be listed on the ONS release calendar soon.

You may also find of interest a compendium of data on child abuse in England and Wales, published in 2020. This includes data on child sexual abuse in England and Wales up to the year ending March 2019.

If you have any further crime data related questions please email us at crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
