Death registration data for 2016 has not yet been published so we are not able to provide rates for this time period.
The following calculations are based on death registrations.
The child mortality rate (children aged 1-14 years) from 01.01.15 - 31.03.15 for Wales is 2.9 per 100,000 population at the same age.
In this calculation the population for children aged 1-14 has been interpolated by (3/8*mid year population estimate (1-14 years) 2014) + ( 5/8*mid year population estimate (1-14 years) 2015. This is the method that is used when calculating quarterly rates.

To enable comparisons against the annual rate we adjust the figure by the number of days in the quarter/year. Multiplying the rate by 365/90 gives a rate of 11.7 per 100,000 population at the same age.
The infant mortality rate (deaths under 1 year) over this period is 4.0 per 1,000 live births. Due to the small numbers of infant deaths in Wales, the infant mortality rate is more prone to random fluctuations.
