You asked
Please provide the following information:
1) We would like the datasets that were used to compile the information in this ONS bespoke data request, see link below:
2) Please can you send us the same data sets that were used in the above analysis, but relating to the period between March 2018 and March 2019.
We said
Thank you for your request.
To create the ONS bespoke data request you referenced in your Freedom of Information (FOI) request, we used the Crime Survey for England and Wales’ (CSEW) non-victim form dataset for 10 – 15 years, for the years ending March 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this information under FOI as it is considered personal information. S.39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act (SRSA) 2007 makes it an offence to disclose any information that would identify an individual or a body corporate. Because the disclosure of the information requested is prohibited by another enactment, s.44 of FOIA applies, the information is exempt from disclosure.
Because of the sensitive and detailed nature of these datasets, they can only be accessed through the Secure Research Service (SRS). This is a free service that gives Approved Researchers access to secure-level versions of datasets.
The equivalent dataset for year ending March 2019 is due to be loaded to the SRS in November 2019 to be accessible to Approved Researchers.
More information about the SRS is available here: https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/whatwedo/paidservices/virtualmicrodatalaboratoryvml
Information on becoming an Approved Researcher (and therefore be able to use the SRS), is available here: https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/whatwedo/statistics/requestingstatistics/approvedresearcherscheme
Please note, the SRS currently hold the CSEW datasets in SPSS format. Approved Researchers can convert the datasets into other formats within the environment, if they wish.
