Thank you for your request.

We used to produce cancer diagnoses for England, and we stopped in 2019. NHS England are now responsible for cancer incidence data for England. Public Health Wales are responsible for this data for Wales. Therefore, we do not hold the requested information regarding cancer incidence in Wales and Public Health Wales may be better placed to assist with this information.

Regarding population estimates for the years requested, we do hold population estimates for Wales for each of the 22 Welsh local authorities requested from 1981. Please see the associated download named 'Average annual mid-year population estimates by Unitary Authority in Wales, 1981-2001.xlsx'.

Please note that unfortunately owing to an exceptional rebasing exercise following the 2001 census, going back for 20 years rather than the usual 10 years, population estimates data for the 22 Unitary Authorities in Wales are not held prior to 1981. Changes to boundaries in 1996 are unfortunately not accurately replicated using available data.
