You asked
Please provide the following information in relation to birth registrations processed via the Registration Online (RON) system:
The number (absolute count, not percentage) of birth records, by calendar year since 2009, that:
- failed to be successfully transmitted from RON to the Office for National Statistics; and/or
- generated an error report within RON requiring investigation or manual intervention; and/or
- were subsequently recorded via alternative means (e.g. paper submission) due to failure within the RON system.
For each year, please provide the total number of such records.
If the information in (1) is not held in the exact format requested, please provide:
- any equivalent or closely related data that captures RON transmission failures, rejected records, or error-report cases; and
- any internal definitions used for "error," "rejection," "failure," or similar categories within the RON data processing workflow.
If available, please also confirm whether these records are included in, excluded from, or corrected within the final published birth statistics.

Thank you for your request.
We do not hold the information you require for questions 1 to 3. The Registration Online (RON) system belongs to the General Register Office (GRO), and feeds into our Life Events Continuity (LEC) system, where we pick up the registrations for processing. The GRO will be able to assist you with these queries. Their contact details are available on the GOV.UK website.
Regarding question 4, we only receive records in LEC via RON when they have been validated by GRO. Therefore, no erroneous records are received or included in our publications.
