Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I am writing to request data regarding the number of baby boys registered with the first name "Yahya" in England and Wales, for each calendar year from 2015 through 2024 inclusive.
If available, please provide:
- The exact number of male births named “Yahya” for each year.
- If the name was not registered in a particular year or if the count falls below your publication threshold, kindly indicate this.

Table six of the Baby names for boys in England and Wales shows all names registered with a count of more than 3 in England and Wales. Data is available from 1996 to 2024. To locate the name ‘Yahya' use the search function on each spreadsheet. This can be found in the 'editing' function along the main ribbon.
As this information is reasonably accessible via another route, Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.
Please note, disclosure controls have been applied to this dataset. Therefore, if a name of interest does not appear at all, it means either 0, 1 or 2 babies were given that name that year. Where this has occurred, we would also be unable to disclose this information under FOIA. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders it a criminal offence to disclose information held by the Statistics Board (ONS) for statistical purposes that would identify an individual. As we are prohibited by law from publishing statistics in which individuals can be identified, Section 44(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) would apply.
