FOI Ref: FOI/2022/4702

I would like to understand the number of Assaults Reported in Schools, year-on-year and split by region.

The reason for the request is to understand whether the figures reported in the following article have increased or declined, post-COVID-19 pandemic: https://schoolsweek.co.uk/assaults-in-schools-soar-by-72-in-four-years/.

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we do not hold police recorded data relating to assaults reported in schools, as we do not generally include the location of reported crime in our statistics.

The Home Office may be better placed to assist, and can be contacted by email at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk

However, our Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) does provide data on the nature of violent incidents against children aged 10 to 15 years in England and Wales which can be found in our Nature of crime: children aged 10 to 15 years, violence tables. These are accessible via the following link: Nature of crime tables, children aged 10 to 15.

The latest data we have published is for the year ending March 2019, with table 2 showing where the violent incident experienced by children aged 10-15 took place.
