Please provide all recorded deaths by year in England and Wales from the years 1998 to 2020, up to and including week 49 in each year.

The following publication, Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional, provides weekly deaths up to Week 49 for 2010 to 2020.

Row 9 of the 'Weekly Figures 2020' tab in the 2020 dataset can be summed up to Column AY to provide total deaths for England and Wales in 2020 up to Week 49.

Row 8 of the 'Weekly Figures' tabs in the datasets for 2010 to 2019 can be summed up to Column AY to provide total deaths for England and Wales up to Week 49.

In order to provide data up to Week 49 for deaths registered between 1998 and 2009, we would need to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

However, the following publication, Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages, provides annual registered deaths in England and Wales from 1998 to 2019.
