You asked

Can you tell me how many deaths there has been within 28 days of people receiving a Covid-19 jab?

We said

Thank you for your request.

We hold the following analysis Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England which includes COVID-19 deaths by vaccination status from January 2021 to 2July 2021. This publication includes weekly mortality rates in England by vaccination status. We have used 21 days after vaccination as this is when the vaccine starts to be effective'

The data are for England only, as vaccinations data for Wales is not yet available to be linked to the mortality dataset and the PHDA covers England only. Therefore, we consider data for Wales as information not held.

A follow up publication was released on 1 November 2021 to include data from January 2021 to 24September 2021.

Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England - Office for National Statistics

We have another release including data up to 31 October 2021 provisionally scheduled for release on 20 December 2021.

Please note this publication does not include deaths directly attributed to the COVID-19 vaccination, such as adverse reactions.

You can find the number of deaths attributed to adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccination in table 12 of our Monthly Mortality Analysis dataset.

There are currently 13 deaths registered in England and Wales with the aligning ICD codes for this, 9 of these deaths have ICD-10 U12.9 as the underlying cause. Due to the small numbers involved, we are unable to provide any further disaggregation of this data.

However, please note that these are deaths across all age groups since the rollout of the vaccination in December 2020 and there are no deaths registered under the age of 35.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with COVID-19 deaths after 28 days of vaccination. To fulfil this request, we would need to complete complex data linkage to NHS COVID-19 vaccination data to census and mortality data. This requires a high level of statistical skill and judgement and extensive quality assurance. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
