Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, we do not hold data on child abuse within a nursery setting.

We primarily produce statistics from two main sources:

  • Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) – a household victimisation survey that asks respondents about their experiences of crime, regardless of whether the incident was reported to the police;
  • Police recorded crime (from the Home Office) – offences that are reported to and/or recorded by police forces in England and Wales.

Our Crime in England and Wales appendix tables (Table A5a and A5b) present the latest police recorded crime data by offence. The latest dataset presents data for the year ending March 2003 to year ending September 2024, with rows 67 to 104 showing data on sexual offences, including those involving children.

Our Child abuse in England and Wales year ending March 2020 publication presents our latest data on child abuse. It brings together data on different types of child abuse, including physical and sexual abuse.

Our Child sexual abuse in England and Wales: year ending March 2019 publication (and its accompanying dataset) brings together data on child sexual abuse. Section 12 of the article, and tables 12a, 12b and 13 present data on perpetrators of sexual abuse experienced before the age of 16. You may also find Table 15 helpful which presents the age at which sexual abuse was first experienced.

Our Child physical abuse in England and Wales year ending March 2019 and its accompanying dataset present data on physical abuse experienced by children.
