The UK Statistics Authority has the statutory objective of promoting and safeguarding the production and publication of official statistics that serve the public good.

The Authority Board last set out its vision for the statistical system in 2020, with the five-year strategy “Statistics for the public good”, which included a statement of the Authority’s mission and four strategic principles. That five-year period has now concluded. The board expects to publish an updated strategy once it is finalised, led by a new chair and a new national statistician. In the meantime, the Board has set out its current priorities for the statistical system.

The priorities will be delivered by the Government Statistical Service (GSS), including the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR), and will be developed further by our respective business plans and vision documents.
