We have corrected errors in the SPPI reference tables. The previous version had several series with incorrect values. The correct values were published within the time series dataset, so there was a discrepancy between the two. This happened because of a technical fault. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

On 21 March 2025 we announced a pause to the ONS Producer Price Index (PPI) and Services Producer Price Indices (SPPI) due to an issue identified with the chain-linking methods used to calculate these indices.

Our investigations concluded the problem affects the period from December 2008 onwards, whilst the main impact on annual producer price inflation rates was in 2022 and 2023, because of the large movements in relative prices during that period.

To give clarity to our users, ONS has requested that the OSR accreditation of the PPI statistics be temporarily removed from all releases dating back to November 2020, when annual chain-linking was introduced. OSR has accepted this request as it clearly signals the limitations and uncertainty around the current estimates to our users.

As previously communicated, we are planning to recommence publication in the summer and will keep users informed of progress.
