Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW). Data include when incidents happened, information about offenders, the victim's perception of the incident.

Data

  • Nature of crime: personal and other theft

    When incidents happened, where it took place, the victim’s perception of the incident, and what items were stolen. Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).

  • Nature of crime: criminal damage

    When incidents happened, information about offenders, the victim’s perception of the incident, and what items were damaged. Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).

  • Nature of crime: bicycle theft

    When incidents happened, where it took place, the victim's perception of the incident, and the cost of items stolen. Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).

  • Nature of crime: other household theft

    When incidents happened, information about offenders, the victim’s perception of the incident, and what items were stolen. Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).

  • Nature of crime: fraud and computer misuse

    Annual data on the nature of fraud and computer misuse offences. Data for the year ending March 2021 and March 2022 are from the Telephone-operated Crime Survey for England and Wales (TCSEW).

  • Nature of crime: violence

    Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW), including when and where incidents happened and the victim's perception of the incident.

  • Nature of crime: vehicle-related theft

    When incidents happened, where it took place, the victim’s perception of the incident, and what items were stolen or damaged. Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).

  • Nature of crime: robbery

    When incidents happened, information about offenders, the victim’s perception of the incident, injuries sustained, use of weapons and if the offender was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).

  • Nature of crime: burglary

    When incidents happened, information about offenders, the victim’s perception of the incident, and what items were stolen. Annual data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).

The United Kingdom Statistics Authority has designated these statistics as National Statistics, in accordance with the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 and signifying compliance with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics.

Designation can be broadly interpreted to mean that the statistics:

  • meet identified user needs
  • are well explained and readily accessible
  • are produced according to sound methods
  • are managed impartially and objectively in the public interest

Once statistics have been designated as National Statistics it is a statutory requirement that the Code of Practice shall continue to be observed.
