You asked

I would like to request statistics on the frequency of which BME people are screened for cancer compared to white people, or how many are diagnosed at an early stage (for example at their GP), rather than in A&E.

If you also have recent stats on the cancer incidence/mortality (particularly breast and prostate) among BME compared to white it would be great to have them as it would stress the criticality of awareness programmes.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, we do not hold data relating to the number of people who are screened, where their diagnosis is made or the ethnicity of cancer patients and thus will not be able to help with your request.

We are responsible for publishing mortality statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales, using the information supplied on the death certificate. The most recent year for which mortality statistics are available is 2018. We also produce cancer registration statistics, which includes data up to 2017.

The cancer registration and survival data are collected and calculated by the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) within Public Health England (PHE). They may have the information that you require and help with your query. Their contact email is: NCRASenquiries@phe.gov.uk. Hopefully they will be able to point you in the right direction.
