Provides files to download data as it existed for this dataset on previous dates.

Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

16 July 2018 An error occurred in our “Provisional Long-Term International Migration estimates” tables for year ending September 2017. This was due to an error in the way data collected on paper questionnaires were merged and processed with data collected on tablets. This was identified during a review of the unpublished October to December 2017 International Passenger Survey data, where an error was identified in the processing system which also affected the July to September 2017 data. A minor error occurred in our “Provisional Long-Term International Migration estimates” tables for year ending June 2017. This was due to a small error in the weights given to some shifts, which was identified during a review of the International Passenger Survey data. We have corrected this error in our “Provisional Long-Term International Migration estimates” tables for year ending December 2017. You can see all previous versions of this data on the previous versions page. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Important notes and usage information

This spreadsheet is updated quarterly. The spreadsheet always contains data for 40 rolling years. Each new release removes the oldest data and adds the latest available data. In addition, previously published estimates may be revised for the following reasons:

  1. Estimates based upon provisional data are revised when final data becomes available.

  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are improved.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Statistics (Quality pillar, practice Q3.4).
