Classifications and harmonisation
Statistical classifications provide a set of related categories in a meaningful, systematic and standard format. Classifications are generally developed to support policy making and because of that, to organise and present statistics.
A cross-governmental programme of work, looking into harmonising inputs and outputs, to make it easier to compare different sources of data.
Regular reviews of standard classifications are conducted to ensure that economic and social changes are reflected in the classification. Where relevant and possible, the classification will be in alliance with European and international standards.
