Thank you for your enquiry about the current adult population in the United Kingdom aged 18 and above.

The latest figures available are from the 2015 mid-year population estimates provided here:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/populationestimates/datasets/populationestimatesforukenglandandwalesscotlandandnorthernireland

Once you have downloaded the zipped files from this link you will need to open the file entitled:

MYE2_population_by_sex_and_age_for_local_authorities_UK_2015.xls

This has single years of age which you can aggregate to get the total for any age range you require. Please read the Terms & Conditions worksheet as this has useful information about the table.

The mid-2016 population estimates are due to be published on 22 June 2017.

We also produce population projections, the latest of which are 2014 based and can be found here:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/populationprojections/datasets/z1zippedpopulationprojectionsdatafilesuk

The Z1 files have the projected population by sex and single year of age which you can aggregate to get the total for any age range you require. You will have to add the male (Sex 1) and female (Sex 2) figures for the overall total. Please read the Contents and Terms & Conditions worksheets as they have useful information about the table.
