You asked

Please could you send me the England Crime statistics for Sexual Assault based on the Gender and Ethnicity of the Offenders. Please can this be for the latest year possible.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry in relation to the sex and ethnicity of offenders of sexual assaults.

With regard to the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW), which is a household victimisation survey that asks respondents about their experiences of crime, we do not collect information regarding the ethnicity of the offender(s). We do, however, collect information on the sex of the offender(s) for victims of serious sexual assault – that is, rape and assault by penetration (including attempts) – in a self-completion module on serious sexual assault; though please note that this does not include all sexual assaults (for example, indecent exposure or unwanted touching). Data on the sex of the offenders of serious sexual assault in the survey year ending March 2017 have been published in Table 13 of the ‘Sexual offences in England and Wales: year ending March 2017’ release, available here:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/datasets/sexualoffencesappendixtables.

As the serious sexual assault self-completion module within the CSEW is not asked every year, this is the latest survey year for which data are available.

Additionally, while we do hold data on the numbers of sexual offences (including sexual assaults) reported to and recorded by the police in England and Wales, we do not hold data related to the perpetrators of these offences.

Data on offenders are held and published by the Ministry of Justice; they may be able to help you further and can be contacted via statistics.enquiries@justice.gsi.gov.uk.

If you would like crime related information in the future, you can simply email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
