We said

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request asking about the population of England and Wales by ethnicity and religion between 2009 and 2019.

We do not currently produce annual estimates of the population of England and Wales by ethnicity or religion. The latest available national statistics on the population of England and Wales by ethnic group and religion are from the 2011 Census. The most comprehensive data we can provide is in this table showing population by ethnic group and religion from the 2011 census.

More up to date information can be found in this table taken from the Annual Population Survey (APS) which samples households across the country. However, this table provides estimates for ethnic group and religion separately.

Other data you may also find useful include:

APS by religion 2011-2018

APS by ethnic group 2011-2015

APS by ethnic group 2000-2010

Population denominators by ethnic group 2011-2018

It may be possible for us to provide more up to date information from the APS but this would require us to do a special extract and tabulation of the data by ethnicity and religion as this is not currently published. This bespoke analysis service would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate.
