You asked

I would like to know how many motorcyclists have been involved in accidents, that go from slight injuries to deaths, 3 years before and 3 years after the new motorcycle license changes were introduced on 19 January, 2013.

This should also include details such as the type of licenses (A, A1, A2, Etc) and ages.

Thank you for your request.

You have made a Freedom of Information Request asking how many motorcyclists have been involved in accidents, that go from slight injuries to deaths, 3 years before and 3 years after the new motorcycle license changes were introduced on 19 January 2013.

The statistics for motorcyclists killed in transport accidents 2010 to 2014 can be found on our website at the following link (table 5): https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/datasets/deathsregisteredinenglandandwalesseriesdrreferencetables

For 2015, these statistics are available through our explorable dataset: https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/select/getdatasetbytheme.asp?theme=73

For 2016 these figures will be available through our explorable dataset from October/November 2017.

The number of deaths provided below have been coded for cause of death using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth revision (ICD-10), where the cause of death was coded to V20 to V29, a motorcycle rider injured in transport accident.

These figures broken down by age group can be found in the links provided above. We do not hold information on the type of licenses held by the deceased.

We do not hold data for accidents, but this is available through the Department for Transport: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/reported-road-casualties-great-britain-annual-report-2015

Other special extracts and tabulations of deaths data for England and Wales are available (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreement of costs, where appropriate). If you would like any further information, you can contact the team directly at: vsob@ons.gov.uk
